The Compaq Presario R3000 / ZV5000 and more HP Laptop models have been one of the best selling series of laptops around the world. Very useful and hardy machines, the only real drawback to them has been a continually inherent problem with the power jack located at the rear of the computer.
Due to very poor quality "cold" soldering these laptops have developed quite a reputation as having serious power adaptor problems. Once the jack begins working loose from the motherboard the user experiences sudden power fluctuations, or worse.
A faulty power jack will continually switch between AC power and your battery, leading to early battery failure. Once the battery is useless and there is no backup power supply when the jack fails...
Boom! the laptop dies...and dies...and dies... Anyone with this problem knows the frustration of continually replugging the power jack and praying the laptop doesn't crash in the middle of anything important, let alone the electrical abuse on the motherboard and hard drive which can also lead to their early failures.
After much research we discovered the often overlooked expansion port on the side of our laptop also has the ability to provide power, altogether bypassing the rear power jack. Unfortunately the cords HP used to sell are now in short supply and the vendors who happen to have some are charging incredibly inflated rates, up to five times HP's original selling price. Another solution was to buy a sometimes equally expensive base for the laptop. However that made our laptop essentially a desktop that could not be transported easily.
Frustrated by these unaffordable solutions and tired of our R3000 continually crashing, we decided to create an affordable alternate solution. We developed a simple port adaptor that secures an insert into the expansion port and an adaptor that plugs into it for the end of your power cord. If you need a power adaptor that plugs one end into your power cord and the other into your expansion slot, providing power for your laptop this is for you!

HP has over time introduced three different expansion ports for their laptops. More confusingly, HP modified the Expansion Port 2 so even though you may have what says Expansion Port 2, it may still be the wrong size.

Thank you for processing my order quickly! I ordered it to use with an HP Pavilion zv5000. It is currently powering my laptop, has charged the battery and the blue lightning bolt power indicator works appropriately (on while battery is charging, off when charge is complete). Thanks again for helping to make this laptop useful again for a fair price! Fast service, great seller! ~keitha6539
